Challenge: How might we motivate surfers and swimmers to actively participate in citizen science?

Process: – Initial research and observation to explore the world of citizen science. – Distribution of a quantitative questionnaire and data collection to understand why people engage in a project like this. We found that future users are looking for a fun, non-restrictive app and want to directly measure their impact on the environment. – Design of the different features. – Proposal of a visual identity. – Creation of mockups and prototyping
App features :
Users can collect and submit valuable data on water quality, supporting scientific research and helping protect coastal environments.
Users can join an active community to share experiences, participate in local events, and connect with other surf and environmental enthusiasts.
The app includes a personal logbook where users can record their surf or swim sessions and track their time in the water.
Gamification is integrated through a leaderboard that rewards the most active users, encouraging them to collect more data.
Curl also features a dashboard for scientists and researchers, giving them easy access to the data collected by users.
